British Values

At East Ardsley Primary Academy we uphold the fundamental principles that make up the British Values.  They are taught discretely through the curriculum in specific subjects such as religious education, geography and PSHE, but they are also discussed and interwoven into Assemblies, Circle Time and other class discussions.

Throughout the year we learn about and  celebrate a range of cultural and religious festivals, the heritage of the children in our school and lots of key national and international events.  We learn that we are all different but that we can all live by the same values and principles that ensure we are all safe, secure and happy.

We use a range of different texts that represent a range of cultures and times in history that enable us to explore how values are shaped and changed over time.  The children are encouraged to question and discuss each of the British Values in a range of different contexts.

There are also lots of roles and responsibilities available to the children in our school to help them to recognise and experience the British Values in action.  Our school councillors are elected through a democratic process, our anti-bullying ambassadors are interviewed and appointed and pupil voice is used to make decisions that affect the children in school.
